We start our cruise experience meeting you at Pythagorio, a little fish village of Samos with traditional middle age alleys and small coffee shops, named after the locally born ancient mathematician and philosopher ” Pythagoras”.  Pythagorio has an unstopped history of 3000 years, being a powerful nautical state around 530 BC under Polycrates tyrant, having great ancient buildings, like Eupalinian aqueduct, a tunnel of 1.036 m length, built in the 6th century BC to serve as an aqueduct (the second known tunnel in history which was excavated from both ends, and the first with a geometry-based approach in doing so) and its port considered to be the oldest man-made port of the Mediterranean Sea. After our welcome coffee at Pythagorio, announced by UNESCO as a town of global cultural inheritance, and a small brief on our SUPER rib boat, one of the BEST in its class, we board and cruise south to Agathonisi Island.

After 25 minutes and in a distance between 12 to 14 nm, is a complex of 5 small exotic islands and reefs. Psathonisi, Agathonisi, Nera, Glaros and Kouneli. First stop at Psathonisi or Nera islands, offer a natural paradise ideal for snorkeling and swimming at their crystal blue waters. Continue cruising and have a fast stop at Katholiko, a fishing refuge with fish cultures. In 3 nm or 10 minutes we meet hidden gulfs with blue lagoons “places worth visit in this life time “with natural swimming pools at the southeast side of the island. Enjoy swimming and jumps from the boat into the blue. Lunch time at the main port of Agathonisi Island, Agios Georgios, only 3nm (10 minutes) from our last stop. Have a little walk around the traditional port and under the Greek sun and enjoy fresh fish by the sea with a glass of ouzo! Weather permitted we continue to the west side of the island or return same route.

History:  Agathonisi also found in the ancient years as < Yetousa >. According to some researchers it owes its present name to a wrong etymology from the plant-name Angathonisi (‘angathi’ being the Greek translation of ‘thorn’).  According to another tradition the island got its current name by a priest in the beginning of last century as the word “agathos” means good or gullible and a common translation is “Island of the Fools” or “Island of the good-hearted”. A few ancient remains found in our island allow us to speculate that Yetousa was inhabited from way back in past. But from time to time, especially when piracy was prospering in the Aegean (and this was frequently the case from ancient times until the 19th century) the island seemed to remain uninhabited for long periods. In 1922 Agathonisi was occupied by Italian troops and was not liberated until after the Second World War In the 1980’s, the island finally got electricity and telephone lines.
